All eight people on board an Airbus H130 were killed after the aircraft crashed in Sekadau Regency, Indonesian authorities confirmed on Friday.

The helicopter was operating in Indonesia and was carrying six passengers along with a pilot and co-pilot at the time of the incident. Officials said the aircraft departed from Melawi Regency at 7:34 am local time (0034 GMT) before losing contact at approximately 8:39 am.

According to local police, all eight occupants were confirmed dead after rescue teams reached the crash site later the same day. Authorities said recovery efforts were significantly hampered by difficult terrain and poor visibility in the area, which delayed evacuation operations.

The crash site was located in a remote region, making access for emergency responders challenging. Despite these difficulties, search and rescue teams were deployed immediately after communication with the aircraft was lost.

Preliminary details about the cause of the crash have not yet been released. Aviation authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation to determine the factors that led to the accident, including weather conditions, mechanical issues, and flight path data.

Helicopter operations in Indonesia often involve travel through remote and forested areas, where unpredictable weather and limited infrastructure can complicate emergency response efforts.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about aviation safety in the region, where challenging geography frequently poses risks to both commercial and private flights. Officials have pledged to release further updates as the investigation progresses.
